Langkawi Day 1
POSTED AT 11:14 PM

Most of us slept merely a few hours before our 6am cab ride to LCCT, for the 8.20am flight.

It was a clear hot day, but surprisingly windy with cool breeze.

The Langkawi islands from afar.

Langkawi, contrary to popular belief, isn't just ONE single island. It is actually made up of 99 (or 100 according to some sources) islands, with another 5 popping out during low tide.

Langkawi got its name from the 'helang', or eagle, and is all about legends and myths.

However, the island (the main island) is more known for its duty-free status than anything else. It's cheap liquor, chocolates, cars, imported goods, corningware, luggage bags, pyrex, and everything else that usually has high taxes imposed on.

When I was younger, my family would make a trip to Langkawi every year, without fail. Not so much for the cheap stuff, but more for the outdoor activities and awesome resort beaches where we can laze around the whole day and do nothing. Berjaya's resort was usually the family favourite.

As I grew older, I guess the tradition stuck to me, even though I don't get to go with my family anymore. They still go each year, but always on clashing dates with exams and such. I've been to Langkawi during SAM, once before the start of year 2 of uni, and then this time. Each time with a separate group of friends. Each time with different activities. I kinda miss the outdoor stuff I used to do with my family though. The caving, hiking, island hopping, horseriding, etc.

Manda and Tony. Outside Zeno where we got most of our cheap stuff.

Parents are extremely happy with the RM25 bottle of Hardy's wine I got them. I failed to see that it was Merlot though. Not my Dad's favourite, but he's happy I got him a 1L (usually only 750mL) bottle of Hardy's. They love Hardy's wine (and others).

Us feasting on Dorin's Andes mint chocolates while waiting for the rest. Too bad the chocs melted after that. :S

Lunch at Syook! Cafe, Langkawi fair. Apparently the biggest mall there.

The gang that went on the graduation trip:
Amanda, Amin, Shim, Jin, Jinseon, Jokien, Michy, Wenhan, Tony, Alvin, Dorin. Shared 3 huge rooms.

Didn't do anything else cos everyone was just so knackered. So, we took an extra long drive back, cos we missed a turning to the hotel. Too early to check in, most of them bummed around or slept in the lobby, while Dorin, Shim and I lazed on the beach. We stayed at Langkasuka this time around.

Rested a bit and off to the pool and beach we went!

Alvin here trying to sabotage someone else's float tube.

Aquabeat's the closed-down water theme park right next to the hotel. What a waste. It used to have the country's first indoor wave pool, huge slides and all.

Spotted: a sloth on a bright yellow float tube.

The boyfriend posing. Jo waddling in the background. I obviously haven't learnt the way to position the camera lens in the Dicapac properly. *points to black corner*

Tony, Alvin, Amin. They look damn happy lor. I don't have such happy pictures. Ahaha.

Jinseon and Jokien

Waterfall massage! The guys were racing in their float tubes. 0_o

Jinseon, Jo, Jin, Wenhan

Wheee! Pretty Korean chick and the alien-looking one, complete with blue goggles. Haha.

I miss my roomie. *sob*

And I miss my other ex-roomie.

WenHan! That played uber well as a first-timer in Gin Rummy.

Group picture =) Too bad not everyone was in it.

Amin, Shim, Alvin, Michy, Jinseon, Manda, Tony and Jin right in front.

Missing from picture: Jo, Wenhan, Dorin

I crack up everytime I see this picture. Hehehe. Someone has an irresistable hot booty.

*Inside joke* The hubby, the fat wife and the skinny mistress.

Supposed to be an all-girls picture. We're missing Poing.

Another happy group picture Dunno where Wen Han drifted off again.

The wonders of an underwater camera case.

Jin oh Jin

I find this picture really funny. Look at our expresssions! AHAHAHA. But then again, Jo says I'm so easily amused.

3 girls, oh-so-smiley Jin, and emm...someone's leg.

There were supposed to be more guys in the shot, but I could only fit in 3 of them in the picture. Sorry guys.

Beach footy! After our rather sucky session of volleyball (for some of us who can't play). Hahaha.

These were taken after Dorin and I had a teeny crash, which caused both our legs to be swollen. Hahaha. It hurt quite badly so I sat out after that.

The final score was 3-1. Jinseon scored a goal, and Shim 2 goals for their group. I scored one for my group. That was really fun, albeit the number of injuries we obtained. Haha. We're an agressive bunch.

Wenhan defending, Shim aiming for goal, and Manda the goalkeeper.

Dorin laughing so much instead of keeping a watch out at the goal post "slippers".

One of my favourite pictures.

Jinseon very happy after scoring a goal.

Had dinner at Rasa which served yummy tom yam which was kinda too spicy for my liking, kankung cooked with tonnes of pepper (odd), yummy fish and grilled chicken. They made awesome pineapple juice too. We liked that so much the girls shared 2 jugs.

Then it was back to the hotel for liquor (what else?), Pictionary which made me laugh so much till my ribs hurt and Gin Rummy.

First night's Pictionary highlight: Manda's igloo drawing. Too bad they threw it away. Wanted to scan it for keep's sake. I thought her polar bear was a teddy bear or a Pokemon! So cute!

Dunno if you saw my company's shop at the LKW Airport- Green Earth Dutyfree, it was next to Skymall. I get my liquor 20% off though I think Kuah town sells even cheaper :(

I stayed at Langkasuka before too. Really big rooms :)

We might have, I'm not sure. We didn't really have time to look around the airport because of a whole long communication problem story at the Kenny Rogers there. Haha. Anyhoo, comparing the price of Chivas (12 years) in KLIA's duty free shop and from a shop in Kuah, the prices in Kuah are a lot cheaper. But maybe with 20% it's about the same? Seriously, you have an awesome job. :-D Dutyfree chocs and liquor. What's there not to like?

ANDES ≠ CHOCOLATE!!! ITS CANDY!

Yes yes, it's candy. But it's in between 2 layers of chocolate too! And they taste like mint chocolates.

That picture was supposed to be just us girls. But he suddenly popped in. Haha.
